Teaching
Jake began teaching cello in his early 20's, working as an instructor for undergraduate students at Oberlin College. After moving to Montréal, Jake continued teaching as a fellow in the Youth Orchestra of the Americas Global Leadership Program. YOA deployed Jake to Chile to instruct cellists in La Serena and in Panguipulli. In Chile he conducted orchestra rehearsals, ran masterclasses, taught group lessons, and helped run teacher development workshops. A few months later Jake was sent to teach at Sonidos de la Tierra in Paraguay. While in Paraguay he taught private lessons at a music program in Asuncion and conducted a chamber orchestra in the nearby city of Ñemby. Jake performed on a volunteer basis for educational programs in the Montréal area, and has performed for assemblies in various Vancouver area schools.
Jake currently teaches in Vancouver, BC, where he maintains a private online and in person cello studio. He also works as a string assistant and sectional coach at the Vancouver Youth Symphony Orchestra. If you’re interested in lessons, request a free 30 minute trial lesson using the form below.
